The New Balance 1890 arrives as one of the most compelling proposals in today’s sneaker landscape. Revisiting its archive, New Balance reorganizes familiar codes into a silhouette where technology, heritage, and contemporary aesthetics coexist with ease.
New Balance 1890: ABZORB technology and hybrid aesthetics
The New Balance 1890 is built on a hybrid logic that blends archival elements with modern solutions. On one hand, it draws from the foundation of the original New Balance 2002 (2010), particularly in the structure of the midsole. On the other, it references the upper of the 890v3, a lightweight running shoe that here takes on a new aesthetic dimension.
At the core of the model is ABZORB technology, present throughout the entire midsole. This system not only delivers cushioning and impact absorption but also defines the shoe’s visual identity. Rather than being concealed, the midsole becomes a central design element, with pronounced volumes that add presence and reinforce its contemporary character.
The upper combines breathable mesh with synthetic overlays, many of them seamless, creating a cleaner and more technical surface. Reflective details further shift the perception of the model depending on the light, adding an extra layer that connects with today’s tech-runner aesthetic.
In terms of finishes, some versions explore more understated palettes — such as the “Faded Black/Utility Green” (U189071H) — while others lean into more expressive color combinations.
Collaborations: from Action Bronson to JJJJound
The launch of the New Balance 1890 has been supported from the outset by a strategy that balances inline releases with carefully selected collaborations. The Action Bronson editions were the first to spark conversation, bringing color, narrative, and visibility to an entirely new silhouette.
Very soon, a collaboration with JJJJound — one of the most influential creative studios today — will also join the lineup.

The New Balance 1890 is now available at SVD, with new versions and collaborations expected in the coming months. Stay tuned.
