The collaboration between Asics and Issey Miyake is rooted in a deep affinity: a shared obsession with movement, the body and technical innovation. Far from being a simple crossover between fashion and sportswear, this project explores how design can enhance physical experience, translating the precision of athletic performance into a radically contemporary aesthetic. The result is a sneaker collection where functionality becomes a visual language.
Issey Miyake
Issey Miyake (1938–2022) was one of the most influential figures in Japanese and global fashion. He founded his eponymous label in Tokyo in 1970, building a career defined by textile experimentation, technical research and a humanistic vision of design. From his iconic pleated garments—developed through innovative industrial processes—to his constant interest in the relationship between clothing and movement, Miyake understood fashion as a living system, in dialogue with the body and technology.

His conceptual approach, positioned between art, engineering and industrial design, led him to collaborate with architects, engineers and technical brands throughout his career. In this context, his connection with Asics feels entirely natural: both share a philosophy grounded in the study of the human body and the enhancement of movement through innovation.

The Asics Hyper Taping x Issey Miyake
The relationship between Asics and Issey Miyake was formalized under the ISSEY MIYAKE FOOT project, a line dedicated to translating the designer’s research into the realm of technical footwear. Inspired by concepts such as modularity, adaptability and ergonomics, the sneakers combine Asics’ biomechanical expertise with the experimental mindset of the Miyake studio.
Within this project, the ASICS Hyper Taping x Issey Miyake—available in black (1203A819-001), dark grey (1203B189-020) and fluorescent green (1203B190-300)—perfectly embody the dialogue between sports engineering and conceptual design. Their construction stands out for the use of strategic bands and panels that wrap the foot, providing support, flexibility and lightness without unnecessary rigidity.
All three sneakers are conceived as functional objects designed to accompany the body in motion, where every element responds to a clear structural logic.
